Missing teeth can be highly irritating especially when chewing food and speaking. Apart from crowns, bridges and denture, dental implant is another option for replacing a missing tooth.

Suitable patients should have a healthy gum and enough bone density to support implants. The result can last as long as natural teeth would, however, it also depends on your chewing pattern.

What will happen during the treatment?

The First Stage: After an x-ray to measure your gum tissue, a titanium screw will be fused into your jaw bone as a support root for a future dental implant. Local anesthesia will be used at this point.

Usually, healing period takes 2-3 months for lower teeth and 3-6 months for upper teeth.  A temporary tooth will be inserted to serve as a functioning tooth before creating a permanent crown.

The Second Stage: 3-6 months as the gum perfectly heals and soft tissue forms around an implant, an abutment will be inserted onto the implant to support porcelain crowns which will be later placed. Your new crown will be made at a lab and reshaped until it fits you perfectly.

Dental implants also provide support for jawbone and gum as you age and do not need to file teeth out as bridges require.

How long do I have to stay in Thailand?

The first stage requires at least 2-3 weeks with 2-6 months interval (can be shorter if you have very healthy bone and gum) before the second stage which takes around 3-4 weeks for lab work and to ‘try in’ crowns.

What to do after the treatment?

Take time to clean the area between the treated teeth and gum, using a small brush. During the first year after the treatment, it is recommended that you visit your dentist on the first, third and sixth month for an x-ray to follow-up healing process and its structure.
